Manchester United have set their sights on Felix Nmecha, the latest star to pique their interest ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports. Despite Borussia Dortmund's reluctance to part ways with the German sensation, they may be forced to consider selling some players due to a disappointing season.
United are keen to bolster their attacking prowess, having struggled for goals in the Premier League this season. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, a summer acquisition from Bologna, have both underperformed in front of goal. However, Ruben Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag last year, is also looking to make changes elsewhere in the squad, including in his midfield.
Prior to his departure, the Dutchman strengthened United's midfield by signing Manuel Ugarte, but questions remain over the future of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
According to Bild, United hold Nmecha in high regard and would be interested in adding the £40million-rated midfielder to their ranks.
The 24-year-old is one of Dortmund's key players, but the club's struggles this season could make a summer move inevitable.
Dortmund, currently managed by Niko Kovac, are unlikely to secure a spot in next season's Champions League following a challenging stint under former manager Nuri Sahin, which has left them languishing in 11th place.
The report adds that the Bundesliga team may be under pressure to offload some of their top talent, including Nmecha, amidst financial constraints.
And there are said to be fears that the Manchester City academy star will push to leave if Dortmund's situation doesn't improve before next season.
The Black and Yellow are inclined to keep Nmecha and might contemplate selling other in-demand players like Gregor Kobel, Jamie Gittens, or Karim Adeyemi to hold on to him.
The buzz around Nmecha's future intensifies rumours about Casemiro and Eriksen's availability come summer.
Eriksen, in particular, is set to be out of contract and has not concealed his plans to search for another team in the approaching season.
Eriksen, speaking with Danish publication Tipsbladet, has dismissed any prospects of moving to MLS or returning to Denmark at this stage, stating: "I still feel like I have good years left abroad.
"In Denmark, players often return to focus on family and end their careers that way, but I don't feel like I'm there yet.
"It's purely about football and where my career stands now. Honestly, I've spent more time abroad than in Denmark during my career, so moving home would almost feel like moving to a new country. But we're not there yet."
