Celtic could find themselves out of pocket to the tune of £10m after Jeremie Frimpong's mooted Liverpool has a twist in the tale.
The former Hoops full-back has been a revelation at Bayer Leverkusen, winning the Bundesliga, unbeaten, and clinching the German Cup in 2024.

The 24-year-old's performances have caught the eyes of Europe's elite clubs, with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Bayern Munich linked with a summer approach.
The Reds have long been among the strongest links of all, with the Premier League leaders looking increasing likely that they will have to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The academy graduate's contract runs out in the summer with Real Madrid keen on him.
According to Sport Bild, Frimpong has been in touch with the Reds over a potential summer transfer to Anfield. Leverkusen are believed to value Frimpong at around €40 million (£33m), and he has a contract at the German club until 2028.
The Scottish Premiership champions hold a 30 percent sell-on fee as part of the £11million deal that allowed Frimpong to leave the club for Leverkusen back in January 2021.
A transfer at that price would fetch around £10.2m for Brendan Rodgers.

However, Bild adds that the 24-year-old is not the only Bundesliga player Liverpool are said to be interested in. And it could complicate any deal.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ansgar Knauff is also said to be of interest to Arne Slot's Merseyside vision.
The Borussia Dortmund academy graduate is more versatile than Frimpong as he can play on either wing and at full-back and would also present a cheaper alternative with a fee rumoured to be around £21m - fetching a sell-on fee of £6.3m for Celtic.
The 23-year-old joined the German side from Borussia Dortmund in January 2022 and caused Rangers heartache just six months later by helping The Eagles clinch the Europa League title on penalties.
Jurgen Klopp was credited as the one to unearth Knauff after watching him perform at a youth tournament in 2014.
Knauff was named ‘Player of the Tournament’ and Klopp invited him to have a trial with Dortmund’s U13s where he progressed through the ranks.
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has previously described the Frankfurt star as "flamboyant", and he is also a very impressive dribbler, placing in the 95th percentile for progressive carries and the 88th percentile for successful take-ons.
