**Liverpool have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid attacker Julian Alvarez this summer, and now a new update has emerged regarding their potential interest in him.**
The longer this season has gone on, the more it has become clear that changes are needed in the Reds’ attack at the end of the campaign.
Mohamed Salah still hasn’t signed a new deal, but he is clearly a vital player if he does pen an extension, while Cody Gakpo has also become a key man in recent months, prior to an injury layoff.
There are genuine doubts over Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, however, with none representing ideal long-term solutions at Anfield.
Diaz has been a good player for Liverpool, but it is hard to see him ever hitting that world-class bracket, while Nunez’s finishing and Jota’s injury-prone nature makes them unreliable options moving forward.
Alvarez has emerged as a reported target for the Reds, perhaps being viewed as an alternative to Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, but it looks like a transfer that is unlikely to happen.
That’s according to a new update from [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-julian-alvarez-to-liverpool-update-after-agents-revelation/), who state that Liverpool are “unlikely to reignite their interest” in the 25-year-old in the summer transfer window.
It will be “difficult” for the move to come to fruition, and with Atletico demanding a “huge transfer fee and contract”, the Reds “would not want to exceed £80m.”
**Alvarez an ideal option for Liverpool?**

This is a disappointing update, considering what a great option Alvarez could be for Liverpool this summer, ticking so many boxes as a player.
Not only is the former Manchester City striker technically elite, but he is also hard-working off the ball, [scoring 11 La Liga goals](https://www.whoscored.com/players/365409/show/juli%C3%A1n-alvarez) in 22 appearances this season.
Alvarez is still relatively young, too, and knows the Premier League well from his time at the Etihad, so if the situation changes, Liverpool would be wise to make a move for him.
Granted, it would take a huge transfer fee to prise him away from Atletico, but he should be considered one of the two best choices to be the Reds’ new centre forward this summer, along with Isak.
