Double £61m Chelsea transfer confirmed by Sporting CP amid Quenda clause

Sporting CP have confirmed that Chelsea have agreed deals to sign Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo with the details of the deal being revealed.

Quenda will join the club and spend the 2025/26 season at Sporting CP, while Essugo will move to Stamford Bridge in the summer. The double deal had been reported in recent weeks with the Blues beating Europe's top teams to their signatures.

Essugo, 20, is currently on loan at Las Palmas in Spain and has caught the eye of Chelsea with his performances. The Sporting duo will join as Enzo Maresca's first signings of the summer in what is expected to be a busy period.

The two deals are yet to be officially confirmed by Chelsea but Sporting have released documents which reveal the details. It explains that Quenda will cost the Blues a fixed fee of £42.5million with £1.1m extra in add-ons while Essugo will cost less at £18.6m.

It also confirms that Quenda will stay in Portugal for next season while Essugo will join Chelsea immediately. The bizarre method of confirming transfer details via statements is something that is a regularity in Portugal.

Essugo's move to London in the summer means Chelsea will have a strong set of players in midfield. Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez are all set to play key parts next season and Essugo's move only adds to that.

It does mean, however, that Maresca will have 11 senior midfield players in the squad with Andrey Santos, Lesley Ugochukwu and Carney Chukwuemeka returning from their current loan spells and Kendry Paez arriving.
