One of several emotions I felt when watching Newcastle lift the Carabao Cup on Sunday was that of pure delight for Eddie Howe.
He has done a brilliant job at Newcastle United over the past three and a half years, but he was always going to be ultimately judged on his ability to turn the club from contenders to winners.
Of course, we still have a long way to go, but Sunday was his first piece of major silverware. He is now a trophy-winning manager and there’s a feeling this won’t be his last.
In his latest long read for [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2025/03/19/newcastle-town-league-cup-celebrations-town-moor/), Luke Edwards has revealed the message behind the scenes from Eddie Howe following Newcastle’s first domestic trophy for 70 years.
It’s believed the 47-year-old told his players that this moment marks ‘the dawn of a new era’ at the club; and Toon chiefs seem to agree with PIF’s Yasir Al-Rumayyan expected to back the manager with money to spend and signings this summer.
Not only that, Edwards shares Howe’s message to friends after victory. Howe told those close that this was the ‘greatest day of his career’ and one that’s left him hungrier than ever to deliver more silverware at St James’ Park.
However, despite exciting plans for summer investment and other trophies in the future, Howe is also planning a ‘strong message’ to all staff once the celebrations are over.
The Telegraph report that Howe will gather the troops and remind them that we must refocus and end the season strongly, aware of the importance of Newcastle returning to the UEFA Champions League; which will be on offer should we land a top five finish.
Speaking to Keith Downie on Monday after Sunday’s celebrations, a tired but elated Eddie Howe spoke brilliantly once again.
“We are an emotional football club”, he said with a smile, revealing how special it was to give supporters that moment before “getting back to work” and focusing on the final two months of the Premier League season.
Typical of Howe, he wasn’t at the after party long, but encourages the players to enjoy their moment and take it all in before between now and our next Premier League game against Brentford on Wednesday 2nd April.
