Liverpool have the profit and sustainability (PSR) capacity to spend well over £100million on a new striker this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseyside giants are 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but some of their forwards have lacked a cutting edge this season.

Mohamed Salah leads the scoring charts with 32 goals in all competitions, while Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have only contributed 15 strikes combined.

Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer after largely failing to impress since joining from Benfica in 2022 for an initial £64million, rising to £85million in potential add-ons.

Football Insider revealed on 16 February Alexander Isak is seen as the “perfect” signing for Arne Slot and the recruitment team at Anfield.

The Sweden international registered his 23rd goal of the campaign in Newcastle United’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday (16 March).

The Tyneside club are believed to value the 25-year-old at around £150million, with his contract at St James’ Park set to run until 2028.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have also been linked with Julian Alvarez after his agent, Fernando Hidalgo, told the media they were keen on signing the 25-year-old before he joined Atletico Madrid for £82million last summer.

The Argentina international, who is under contract with the La Liga side until 2030, has registered 23 goals and five assists in 44 appearances this season.

Sources have told Football Insider Liverpool have a “huge” PSR capacity and could spend well over £100million on a big-name striker this summer, having largely kept their powder dry in the past two transfer windows.

Liverpool no closer to agreeing Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold deals

Liverpool signed winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus and Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia last summer, with the goalkeeper joining the club at the start of next season.

The Merseysiders opted against strengthening their squad in the January transfer window following their strong first half of this campaign.

Anfield chiefs have been focusing on agreeing new deals with Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold over the past few months.

The star trio could all leave the club on free transfers once their contracts expire on 30 June.

Football Insider revealed on 9 February Liverpool aren’t close to agreeing terms with Salah, Van Dijk or Alexander-Arnold after the latest round of talks.

Liverpool could land £700m windfall

Liverpool suffered a £57million pre-tax loss in 2023-24 despite posting a record-breaking revenue, with their turnover rising from £594million to £614million.

The club’s strong financial performance was driven by a significant uplift in commercial revenue, which increased from £272million in 2022-23 to £308million.

Their matchday income rose from £80million to £102million, but their media revenue fell from £242million to £204million due to their lack of Champions League football last season.

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Liverpool’s revenue could reach close to £700million following their strong performances this season.
