Once again the Detroit Lions are in the mix to make some changes in the NFL with three rule proposals.
Jeremy’s got a breakdown here to check out first, but a basic overview: one rule would get rid of automatic first downs on illegal contact and defensive holding penalties. Another rule would change playoff seeding to be based on regular-season records — division winners wouldn’t automatically host a playoff game. The third rule would prevent players placed on IR before the cutdown date from counting against the team’s 90-man roster limit.
It seems the proposed playoff seeding change is stirring the most conversation, I didn’t see much on the other two. Here’s a look at what some people are saying.
This is interesting: The #Lions proposed a bylaw change that would allow wild card teams to be seeded higher than division winners based on record.
This would’ve been helpful to the rival #Vikings last year, and could be a factor in future years in competitive divisions…. pic.twitter.com/cKs1JBGJU9

If you want to frame it like this, go for it.
The Lions play a lot of man. Rule changes (and changes in enforcement) in favor of the offense have made it hard for teams to still play man. Lions want to try to make it legal to play man defense again. https://t.co/RgDIje7Jm6

The #Lions proposed a rule that would be bad for the NFL
Why devalue division titles? Let’s not overreact to last season.
Odds are that Lions-Vikings fiasco never happens again since it had never happened prior to last year. Once it a blue moon type situation. Deal with it. pic.twitter.com/GlcgUCtUnv

The Lions want to change the seeding in the NFL playoffs by not rewarding division winners from bad divisions with auto home games during the Wild Card Round!
