Alan Shearer picks the best Newcastle manager out of Eddie Howe, Sir Bobby Robson and Kevin…

Alan Shearer believes Eddie Howe will get a statue at Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe made history on Sunday, becoming the first Newcastle United manager to win a trophy since 1969.

Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup, beating Liverpool at Wembley to end their trophy drought.

The Magpies created memories that will last a lifetime, while Eddie Howe enjoyed the best day of his career.

After winning the final, Howe is going to become a freeman of Newcastle, while supporters are debating whether or not he will receive a statue at St James’ Park.

Alan Shearer makes Eddie Howe admission after statue claim

Paul Scholes laughed at Howe getting a statue, but Toon legend Alan Shearer believes it is inevitable.

He spoke about Howe’s achievement on the Sports Agents podcast, admitting that he has now eclipsed Sir Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan at Newcastle United.

“Eddie will be able to pick wherever he wants his statue,” Shearer said.

“I’m pretty sure he’ll get one.

“Think of the brilliant Sir Bobby Robson, what Kevin Keegan did for Newcastle and how highly regarded these guys are in and around not only just Newcastle but in Sir Bobby’s case around the world.

“But Eddie has gone one further than they were able to do. He’s actually delivered that trophy. He’s put himself above those brilliant managers.”

'If they need to make room, can they take the Shearer statue down?' 🙋‍♂️👀

The other Newcastle United statues at St James’ Park

When you think of iconic Newcastle United managers, you think of Sir Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan.

But now you think of Eddie Howe too, and he has done something that neither of those Newcastle United legends could do.

That is why Shearer says Howe is above Robson and Keegan, and it is why a statue has to be in the current Toon boss’ future.

As it stands, there are three statues outside St James’ Park.

The first was unveiled in 1991 and dedicated to Jackie Milburn. He won three FA Cups with the Magpies in the 1950s, while he was also Newcastle United’s all-time leading goalscorer until Shearer broke that record in 2006.

The next statue outside of St James’ Park went to Sir Bobby Robson in 2012, three years after he passed away.

The most recent Newcastle United statue belongs to Shearer. It was unveiled in 2016, but was placed on Barrack Road on land that was not owned by the club. It was then moved next to the Sir Bobby Robson statue in 2022 following the change of ownership at the club.
