Jack Grealish to Newcastle transfer truth as Man City star handed 'wake-up call'

England's forgotten man, Jack Grealish, is reportedly open to a move to Newcastle in an attempt to revive his faltering career. The winger has found himself falling down the ranks at Manchester City this season following a string of lacklustre performances. Injuries have also put a damper on his progress after playing a pivotal role in City's treble-winning 2022/23 season.

Chronicle Live claim that Grealish had been offered to Newcastle, sparking rumours of a summer transfer. Despite being bought for a record-breaking £100million in 2021, the winger's worth has significantly decreased. Insiders close to Grealish say that the player is receptive to a move to Tyneside. Grealish and his team believe that Eddie Howe's managerial approach will aid him in regaining his form during a crucial season that concludes with a World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada.

Grealish was notably absent from Thomas Tuchel's inaugural Three Lions squad this week for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia. Instead, the 29-year-old will be a spectator as players like Anthony Gordon, Phil Foden, Jarrod Bowen and Marcus Rashford compete for the wide attacking positions in the German's first selection since taking the reins.

Grealish was a vital part of Lee Carsley's squads when the interim manager took over for four matches after Gareth Southgate's departure. In fact, Grealish netted a goal in the first match of Carsley's stint in the 2-0 victory over Republic of Ireland.

His future at City is hanging in the balance after a season of limited game time, raising concerns about his World Cup prospects following his exclusion from Tuchel's plans and Southgate's Euros squad last year. The possibility of missing out on another major tournament has sparked rumours that Grealish might seek a new club come summer.

Newcastle icon Alan Shearer weighed in on the situation, saying: "It's really tricky. First and foremost, he'll want to get back into the Man City side and only he can determine that. I don't know what's happening or not happening in training.

"You hear one or two bits from Pep Guardiola saying Jack Grealish may not be quite happy with what's happening at City. As a player, when everything is not rosy you have to think, what's best for me and what's best for the team? Do I have to get my head down and win my place back or is it best that I go elsewhere. Only Grealish will know that.

"Grealish is at a great football club and has had huge success but being left out of this England squad will be a wake-up call for him."

Newcastle are reportedly on the hunt for a right-sided attacker come summer, with Grealish typically playing in a left-wing position or even as a No. 10.

Given that Paul Mitchell's transfer budget is expected to remain somewhat constrained, and with four positions - goalkeeper, centre-half, right wing and centre forward - being targeted, it appears improbable that there will be sufficient funds remaining for Grealish unless another player departs.

Grealish still has two years remaining on his contract, which is believed to be worth around £300,000 per week. He has only started six league matches this season under Guardiola's management.
