NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. has unveiled his latest mock draft, and his prediction for the Los Angeles Rams' first-round pick is certainly one to watch.
A year ago, the Rams had their fair share of struggles in defending the pass, often getting dotted up by opposing quarterbacks. Surprisingly, they finished near the bottom half of the league, ranking 20th in pass defense and surrendering 223 passing yards per game.
However, with the recent announcement of defensive back Ahkello Witherspoon's return in free agency, Kiper envisions the Rams addressing their defensive woes by selecting Florida State cornerback Azareye'h Thomas with the 26th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, further bolstering the backend on defense.
"The Rams went heavy on Florida State defenders last April, drafting Jared Verse and Braden Fiske in the first two rounds. They both had great rookie seasons. Why change the approach now? Let's give L.A. another Seminole, this time in the secondary," ESPN NFL Draft Analyst Mel Kiper stated after releasing his first round predictions on Tuesday.
At Florida State, Thomas consistently showcased his pro potential over three seasons in Tallahassee. His broke onto the scene in 2024 when he totaled 53 tackles, deflected four passes, and nabbed an interception.
NFL scouts are equally enamored with Thomas' impressive size. Standing at 6'2" and weighing 198 pounds, it's easy to understand why teams are drawn to his physical stature and believe he'll excel at the next level.
Currently projected as one of the top cornerbacks in the draft, selecting Thomas would significantly improve the Rams' defense heading into next season.
