Manchester United saw Rasmus Hojlund end his goal drought against Leicester City, but another striker remains a priority this summer.

Ruben Amorim’s side have found the net seven times in their last two games, beating Real Sociedad 4-1 and Leicester City 3-0.

Despite the recent upturn in goals, United’s struggles in front of goal this season suggest reinforcements are needed.

Hojlund finally ended his 21-game drought last time out, offering hope that he can build some momentum.

However, Joshua Zirkzee is thriving in a deeper role, and Chido Obi remains raw.

Which likely means another striker will surely be on the radar.

United have been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike, who would cost around £67 million.

Yet, INEOS may instead opt for a bargain signing, with reports from January suggesting strong interest in Jonathan David.

The Lille forward is out of contract this summer and looks set to move on in search of the next step in his career.

Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap US, David was quizzed about his future but refused to be drawn on any specific clubs.

He did, however, admit his childhood admiration for Spanish football and suggested La Liga would be his ideal destination.

“To be honest, I think I can adapt to every league,” said David.

“Obviously, every league has their differences; I think the Premier League is a lot faster and more physical than the other leagues.

“But, me, always when I grew up, I grew up watching a lot of La Liga.

“That would be my preferred league, but I think that’s the league I enjoyed watching the most.

“So I think – one day – I would like to play there but will that happen?

“I don’t know,” he told Gary Neville.

“I’m not opposed to anything, we’ll just see where the future takes us,” he added.

David’s availability on a free transfer makes him a highly attractive option in the market.

While agent and signing-on fees would be significant, he would still be a much cheaper alternative to Ekitike.

The 24-year-old has registered 23 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season for Lille.

However, nine of those strikes have come from the penalty spot, and he would not be taking those duties from Bruno Fernandes at United.

A host of clubs are expected to battle for David’s signature this summer, making him one of the most in-demand free agents on the market.
