Free agent interior offensive lineman Lucas Patrick is visiting the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday, according to a report from Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports. Patrick, 31, started 10 games for the New Orleans Saints during the 2024-25 season.
One of the top free-agent guards on the market, Patrick also visited with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week. He played collegiately at Duke and entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2016 with the Green Bay Packers.
Patrick played his first six seasons with Green Bay. He spent one year on their practice squad. He'd then start 34 of 73 game appearances over the next five seasons, including 28 combined starts between 2020 and 2021.
During the 2022 offseason, Patrick was signed by the Chicago Bears. He'd start 20 contests in two years with the Bears, including 15 starts during the 2023 campaign.
In 2024, the New Orleans Saints brought Patrick in on a one-year contract in free agency. He won the starting job at left guard to open the season.
Patrick started the first five games, first at left guard then at center for an injured Erik McCoy. He'd then suffer an upper body injury of his own and have to deal with various injuries over the rest of the season.
Patrick missed two games with the upper body injury before returning to start two games. He'd then suffer a foot/ankle injury that sidelined him for three games. After returning for three more games, Patrick sustained a knee injury that knocked him out for the remaining two games of the year.
Patrick was one of several injuries that the Saints sustained along their offensive line last season. When in the lineup, he played well for the team. With Patrick on the market, New Orleans has a gaping hole with no answer at left guard.
The Cincinnati Bengals need offensive line help as badly as New Orleans. Cincinnati ranked just 30th in rushing production last season while allowing 48 sacks of quarterback Joe Burrow.
