Internationals | Sonny, Yang take a step closer to the World Cup with South Korea

Heung-Min Son wore the captain's armband and completed a full shift as South Korea were held by Oman in their latest World Cup qualifying match in Goyang on Thursday.

Wolves striker Hwang Hee-Chan opened the scoring for Korea just before half-time, only for Oman to level through Ali Al Busaidi 10 minutes from time. Sonny had a couple of decent efforts at goal either side of half-time as he earned his 132nd cap. Yang Min-Hyeok, currently on loan at QPR, was an unused substitute.

South Korea remain top of Group B in Asian qualifying for the 2026 finals in USA, Canada and Mexico, four points clear of Iraq. Importantly, with three matches remaining, they are six points clear of Jordan in third, with the top two qualifying directly for the finals. Jordan are next up for Sonny and Yang in Suwon on Tuesday (11am).
