Seriously, what was Graham Potter thinking after big Niclas Fullkrug update?

Niclas Fullkrug has been on the sidelines more than he’s been involved in West Ham United’s match-day squads this season.

West Ham signed Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024 for a fee believed to be worth around £27.5 million.

The German has proven to be a woeful signing for the Hammers though.

And it has even been suggested that Niclas Fullkrug is will take a pay-cut in order to leave West Ham.

The 32-year-old missed nearly three months of action earlier this season with an Achilles problem.

And then he injured his hamstring back in January. He still hasn’t featured for West Ham since then.

It was initially reported that Fullkrug will not return to action for West Ham until mid April at the earliest.

What was the point in Evan Ferguson deal after Niclas Fullkrug update

Evan Ferguson joined the Hammers on a straight loan deal from Brighton on transfer deadline day in the January window.

However, he’s barely featured under Graham Potter so far, with only 96 minutes of Premier League action to his name.

Sure, he wasn’t fully fit when he moved to the London Stadium, but the odd 10 or 15-minute cameo here and there will have done nothing to help him in that regard.

It has been claimed already that West Ham are unlikely to sign Evan Ferguson permanently this summer.

The deal to bring the 20-year-old to the London Stadium was already looking like a bizarre one.

Now it seems utterly pointless all together, after a fresh update on Niclas Fullkrug.

Niclas Fullkrug injury update

According to Sky Germany, Fullkrug has joined the German national team squad ahead of their game against Italy on Sunday.

Whilst the Hammers hitman won’t take part in the game, he’s nearly ready to play again.

He will return to West Ham ahead of our fixture against Wolves on April 1st.

So if Evan Ferguson was signed as cover for Niclas Fullkrug, why on earth hasn’t he started a game for West Ham yet?

That’s what you call poor management from Graham Potter in my opinion.

If he was going to get the best out of the Irishman, he should have thrown him into the mixer as soon as he joined.

Now with Fullkrug set to return from injury, Ferguson may never get the chance to start a Premier league game for the Hammers.
