The Las Vegas Raiders cornerback room is undergoing change this offseason and it will continue.
Let’s take a look where the position stands a week-plus into free agency:
New free agent added:
Eric Stokes (Green Bay Packers), Lonnie Johnson (Carolina Panthers). He was a safety, but he does have cornerback experience in NFL.
Free agent who departed:
Nate Hobbs (Green Bay).
Free agent who returned:
Darnay Holmes.
Current free agents:
None.
Returners:
Jack Jones, Jakorian Bennett, Decamerion Richardson, Sam Webb, MJ Devonshire, Ky Blu Kelly.
Draft:
The Raiders reportedly wanted to add a top cornerback in free agency since as Byron Murphy, but he remained with the Minnesota Vikings. The Raiders could still add in free agency and they probably will consider the position in the early rounds, but there are other positions of need as well.
Conclusion:
Las Vegas will need to replace Hobbs as the nickel cornerback and will need some young cornerbacks take the next step. This could be a solid unit or it could take some lumps. Pete Carroll needs to work his secondary magic with this group.
