Chiesa’s Liverpool future hinges on remaining games after stellar cameo

Football correspondent David Lynch revealed that the remaining Liverpool fixtures will determine the future of Federico Chiesa under Arne Slot. Liverpool signed Chiesa in a bargain deal from Juventus during the summer as the only signing of the current season.

The Reds avoided more transfer activity to give the current squad a chance to impress the new club head coach. As Slot assessed the squad he inherited from the legendary Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman struggled to give Chiesa frequent chances.

The 27-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the beginning of 2022 which started a series of fitness misfortune. The Italy international struggled with recurring nagging injuries as Juventus continuously rushed him back as he was their prominent attacker.

Last summer, a change in managerial post at the Italian club caused a lot of ruckus for many including Chiesa. New manager Thiago Motta demanded changes and asked the club to sell many players including the 27-year-old forward.

Liverpool pounced on the opportunity to sign Chiesa with the hope of him rejuvenating his career and fulfilling his potential. The 27-year-old forward was arguably one of the best attackers in Europe before his injury, earning a reputation for his incredible Euro 2020 performances to help Italy win the tournament.

According to Lynch( via X), Chiesa has impressed the Liverpool staff with his attitude and Carabao Cup final cameo but his future depends on how much Slot will use him in the upcoming fixtures. He wrote:

“Liverpool sources talk of Federico Chiesa’s “immaculate” attitude in training, and he has looked dangerous whenever used this season. But if he continues to struggle for minutes across the next nine games, then it is hard to imagine him sticking around.”

Chiesa’s cameo against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final

Chiesa delivered a stellar performance in his 15-minute late cameo against Newcastle during the Carabao Cup final. The game was already beyond reach for the tired Reds with the 0-2 scoreline in the Magpies’ favour.

Chiesa scored the only Liverpool goal in the 94th minute of the game after linking up with Harvey Elliott. The Italian international provided what the rest of the regular attackers have failed in recent months, an outlet.

Chiesa’s clinical finish along with his desire to work hard off the ball, while driving forward in possession, provided some fight. The 27-year-old made four out of seven accurate passes in his short cameo, enjoying 17 touches with five inside the opposition box.

Recent 15-minute Cameo of Federico Chiesa surpassed everything Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have done for Liverpool in 2025

Chiesa won 100% ground duels (four) and earned a foul three times while his teammates struggled to win many duels. Defensively, Chiesa made 100% tackle (one), completed one defensive action and made one recovery to help his teammates.

Chiesa’s chances in the remaining nine Premier League fixtures

While the global Liverpool fanbase is usually divided, there is a strong consensus that Chiesa deserves more starting role in the upcoming games. The 27-year-old has done more in his 15-minute cameo than what Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have done since the start of 2025.
