Everton are ready for a significant appointment after plucking Angus Kinnear from Leeds United to be their new chief executive.
Kinnear will pitch up on Merseyside at the end of the season with his new role in the Toffees’ boardroom set to begin this summer, coinciding with the move to the new Everton Stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock.
Set to move on from his time at Elland Road after eight years, with a view to overseeing the Whites’ return to the Premier League, Kinnear brings a wealth of experience to the executive team at Everton.
Dan Friedkin and his array of new-look Everton directors landed on Kinnear as the number one choice to lead the club into its new era on Liverpool’s waterfront, and will be hoping he can hit the ground running.

Kinnear’s eight-year tenure at Elland Road has been an eventful one, bringing in Marcelo Bielsa to catalyse Leeds’ promotion back to the top-flight, but also overseeing their relegation three years later.

However, having previously had an all-encompassing role at Leeds, BBC journalist Adam Pope has told The Esk (19 March) that Kinnear’s remit being “diluted” in recent years could be the reason for his move.
Pope said: “I can see the attraction – but, I think some of his role at Leeds has been diluted with the 49ers gradually increasing their stake to full ownership, and bringing more of their people in.
“Some of the remit, which included the development of Elland Road – which is meant to be happening over the next few years – I think some of that responsibility might have been sort of taken off [him] and more shared with the chief operating officer that came in a little while ago called Maury Eisenberg.
“So maybe it was time to move on as well. I don’t think you can disregard that either.”

Angus Kinnear set for brand-new environment at Everton
Kinnear has indeed achieved plenty during his time with Leeds – earning promotion back to the promised land after 16 years in the EFL – but there’s also one box which has not been ticked in his eight years.
That box is stadium redevelopment, with Elland Road still the outdated, throwback stadium it was when Kinnear arrived, and arguably has been since its last major redevelopment in the mid-1990s.
Elland Road remaining ‘as was’ despite Leeds spending three years in the top-flight makes them the only club Kinnear has worked for – after Arsenal and West Ham – that hasn’t undergone a stadium change.
At Everton, however, that redevelopment will have already been done by the time Kinnear arrives, with their new Bramley-Moore Dock home already up and running and hosting Everton-related test events.
Kinnear, therefore, won’t have a huge stadium project to oversee, but as he comes on board at the cusp of a brand new era, the 47-year-old will be set to reap the benefits of Everton’s transformational summer.
