This summer is set to be a hugely significant one for Liverpool with three key players in line to be out of contract.
Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are all in the final six months of their respective deals, and all three players could therefore depart Anfield as free agents at the end of the season.
Arne Slot and those in charge of the club will be desperate to avoid losing all three players, but the Merseyside outfit are also likely to want to bolster the Dutchman’s squad during the upcoming transfer window.
With that in mind, several names have been linked with a move to Merseyside, but it appears that rumours suggesting Liverpool are interested in a World Cup winner are not true.
According to TEAMtalk, the Merseyside club are no longer interested in Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the former Manchester City man in recent days, but the report claims that Liverpool are. not interested in the player.
Alvarez scored 36 goals in 103 games for Manchester City
It is claimed that Liverpool did discuss the possibility of signing the player prior to his move to Spain, and the Premier League leaders do still admire Alvarez.
The 25-year-old joined Atletico from Man City last summer and has since impressed in the Spanish capital.
In total he has played 44 times across all competitions, scoring 23 goals and registering five assists.
The Argentina international – who was part of the squad that won the World Cup in 2022 – signed a long-term deal when joining Atletico last summer and is therefore under contract until the end of the 2029/30 campaign.
The report suggests that, while Liverpool are still admirers of the forward, they are aware of the difficulty and costs associated with agreeing a deal for the player this summer and therefore aren’t plotting a move.
