Khusanov's Uzbekistan edge closer to qualification

Abdukodir Khusanov played the full 90 minutes as Uzbekistan saw off 10-man Kyrgyz Republic 1-0.

The victory keeps the Uzbeks in second place, on the trail of Group A leaders Iran for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC) with three more group matches to play.

The match, played in Khusanov’s home city of Tashkent, saw Kyrgyz Republic reduced to 10 men on 34 minutes when Said Vladimirovich Datsiev was shown a straight red card.

What proved to be the only goal of the game came six minutes later as Pakhtakor FC’s Alijinov Khojiakbar scored on 40 minutes.

In what was Khusanov’s 19th appearance for his country, the hosts dominated the game from start to finish, registering 20 shots, nine of which found the target.

With leaders Iran beating UAE 2-0, the win leaves Uzbekistan six points clear of the third placed UAE.

More international updates on City players will follow later this evening...
