Offensive line is a significant need for the Miami Dolphins, and there are many ways to address it. One of the ways the Dolphins can add along the offensive line is in the trade market. The Dolphins swing a move for a former first-rounder in this trade pitch.
The Dolphins call up the New Orleans Saints and trade for offensive tackle Trevor Penning. After three years in the NFL, the former first-rounder out of Northern Iowa could be on the market.
Penning played right tackle for the Saints in 2024 after starting his career with New Orleans at left tackle. According to Pro Football Focus, he surrendered five sacks and 54 pressures in 2024.
A change of scenery could be good for Penning, as he's struggled in New Orleans. The Dolphins could also explore the possibility of moving Penning inside to guard.
The Philadelphia Eagles had massive success moving former first-round offensive tackle Mekhi Becton inside to guard, and Miami could look to replicate that success with Penning.
Penning could stay at tackle or move to guard for the Dolphins. Regardless, he would be a solid option for the Dolphins to bring in, likely at the cost of a day-three selection.
Miami would add a much-needed offensive lineman with starting experience at both tackle spots. Whether he'd be their left tackle or left guard, the Dolphins would add a solid offensive lineman to protect Tua Tagovailoa.
The Saints would entertain this trade since Penning is in the last year of his rookie deal and could be looking to get draft compensation before he leaves in free agency.
