Tottenham would prefer to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi ahead of Fikayo Tomori this summer, according to their former scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that the 24-year-old is still their top target as they look to improve at the back.

Tomori, meanwhile, is another name on their list of targets as he has been tipped to leave AC Milan this summer despite opting to stay in January.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Tottenham haven’t given up on signing Guehi after having a £70million bid rejected in the closing stages of the mid-season window.

After that deal was rejected, Spurs then saw a move for Tomori collapse as the timing of the move saw the 27-year-old decide to remain in Milan.

Both England internationals remain on Tottenham’s list of targets, as signing a new centre-back has risen up their list of priorities as the end of the season nears.

Tottenham plan Marc Guehi move after Fikayo Tomori verdict

Brown told Football Insider on 17 March that Ange Postecoglou wants a top-class centre-back this summer amid questions about Cristian Romero’s future.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, revealed that

“*I saw a lot of Tomori and youth team level with Chelsea and England,*” he told Football Insider.

“He looked like somebody who would go on to be a real top player, but I don’t think he’s quite hit the heights I and many others expected of him.

“Since he’s gone abroad to play in Italy, he’s done well and he’s kept improving.

“It now sounds like he might be interested in a move back to the Premier League in the summer.

“Tottenham are one of the clubs who have been looking at him.

“They’re looking to bring in a new centre-back, but they want a real solid option to come in alongside Van de Ven – I don’t know if Tomori is that player.

“I think Guehi is still the one they want after they missed out in January.

“He’s an England regular, a leader for Crystal Palace, will give you consistently impressive performances every week and is defensively brilliant.

“If they could sign any centre-back, he would be the one, it’s just about whether they can get it done.”

Cristian Romero update emerges after Real Madrid latest

As Spurs continue their search for a new centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window, Romero’s future has been subject to plenty of speculation.

Football Insider revealed on 15 November that Spurs will demand a “huge” offer for Romero if they are to entertain talks over his exit.

Now, Brown told Football Insider that Romero wants to join Real Madrid as he is on their list of potential targets as they also look to strengthen at the back.

However, Los Blancos are set to assess alternative options before they make a move for Romero as they continue to work on new arrivals behind the scenes.
