Everton manager David Moyes has enjoyed a successful return to Goodison Park this season, 12 years after he originally left.

Moyes replaced Sean Dyche midway through the campaign, and has overseen an impressive run of form which has steered Everton away from the Premier League relegation battle.

The Scot made his impressive return after leaving West Ham United at the end of last season, where he won the Europa Conference League, and he recently faced his old club as Everton drew 1-1 at home to the Hammers, with Jake O’Brien scoring an injury time equaliser.

Moyes will now be involved in West Ham’s business again, as the Everton boss has stepped up to defend one of their players.

Everton boss David Moyes to defend Lucas Paqueta in trial

West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has been one of their best players since joining from Lyon, but he faces a trial after accusations of spot-fixing were aimed at him, which Paqueta himself vehemently denies.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Moyes is set to corroborate a key part of Paqueta’s defence as a witness, with the Brazilian’s former boss set to defend the midfielder as he faces trial over the accusations.

The report states that Paqueta, who has been accused of “receiving yellow cards on purpose to influence betting outcomes,” will have his former boss to call upon in the trial, who is expected to provide key information in his defence.

Has David Moyes found his new Lucas Paqueta at Everton?

Paqueta already has a lot to thank Moyes for in his career, having found some incredible form during the 61-year-old’s time in charge at West Ham.

The Brazilian was a wonderkid at Flamengo in his home country, but an unsuccessful spell at AC Milan meant he was at a crossroads in his career before he ended up at French side Lyon.

A big-money move to West Ham followed and, under Moyes, Paqueta established himself as one of the leading attacking midfielders in the Premier League.

Since Moyes departed the London Stadium, Paqueta has failed to hit his best form, with the Everton boss clearly influential on his performance levels.

Everton have their own ex-Flamengo attacking midfielder in Carlos Alcaraz, who has impressed since Moyes signed him in February, and the Argentinian will hope to become a key player on Merseyside in the coming months.
