It has certainly been a whirlwind few days for Newcastle United hero Dan Burn.
Burn made himself a Newcastle United legend by scoring the opening goal in the 2-1 win over Liverpool in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
The defender scored a remarkable header at Wembley and proved fantastic throughout, playing a major role in the club ending 70 years of domestic hurt.
All of that came only days after Burn was called into the England squad for the first time. At 32, the Newcastle star is on course to make a remarkable international debut, having progressed through the Football League following his release from his boyhood club when he was 11.
Manager Thomas Tuchel values Burn’s versatility and the prospect of seeing the Geordie hero playing at the 2026 World Cup is certainly starting to feel very real indeed.
Still, while the defender has shrugged off the idea of retiring any time soon, it seems he’s taking steps towards the next stage of his career.
Burn has started taking his coaching badges with the PFA and some interesting footage of him coaching the Newcastle U14s has emerged.

Newcastle United hero Dan Burn reveals what type of manager he will be after Eddie Howe backing
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has backed Burn to make a good manager, acting as a rather ringing endorsement considering the job Howe has done at the club.

Perhaps one day we will see the boy from Blyth in the dugout at St James’ Park. Given the fairytale nature of the last few days, it seems foolish to write off anything like that.
During his course, Burn was asked what type of manager he would look to be, should he pursue the vocation as a full-time career.
The Newcastle star revealed he’d be much more analytical than some of the managers he worked under earlier in his career.
“I think I’ve probably played under too many managers in my time, to be honest,” he said.
“But I feel like with every single one of them that I’ve worked under, whether I agree with what they did or they didn’t, I feel as if I’ve picked up stuff.
“I feel it’s changed. When I was bit younger maybe I think the managers were a little bit more emotional. Whereas I feel now it’s a lot more sort of analytical and not very up and down.
“It’s very like [focusing on] the philosophy and what you want to do, this is how we do it and that’s what we go through, so I feel as if that’s more my style of coaching.”
Thomas Tuchel also sees something in Newcastle United star Dan Burn
Not only has Howe backed Burn, Tuchel has also shared an emphatic verdict on the Newcastle man.
Indeed, Tuchel thinks Burn can bring leadership into the England squad, which is clearly another key part of management.
Whether or not Burn goes into the profession full-time of course remains to be seen. However, he certainly couldn’t have had more backing from two of the best coaches around.
For now, however, there’s plenty more to play for with both Newcastle and England.
