The Detroit Lions entered the 2025 offseason with a major need at cornerback.
They took care of that immediately, opening free agency by adding D.J. Reed.
Even after that move, the team still needed a bit of depth at the position after their depth was tested across their defense in 2024.
Now they're adding that depth in the second week of free agency.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Lions have agreed to terms with former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Rock Ya-Sin.
Ya-Sin was selected early in the second round of the 2019 draft by the Colts, but hasn't quite lived up to expectations.
He struggled in his first two seasons, allowing opposing QBs to complete more than 65% of their passes for an average of 8.9 or more yards in each of his first two years with the Colts.
Then he put together the best season of his career in year three.
Ya-Sin allowed a completion percentage of just 53.3% while only allowing 4.8 yards per target when opposing QBs threw his way during his third season.
The Colts took advantage of the opportunity and sent him to the Raiders in exchange for Yannick Ngakoue.
He spent a year in Vegas, and had another solid season. He only allowed a 60.9% completion percentage and six yards per target during his season with the Raiders.
Since then, he has spent a year each with the Baltimore Ravens and 49ers, but hasn't gotten much playing time on defense. He played just 279 snaps on defense for the Ravens.
This past season he spent more time on special teams than he did playing corner. Ya-Sin played 107 snaps on special teams for the 49ers and just 62 on defense.
Now he'll serve as depth and in a Lions cornerback room that will have Reed, Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw Jr., and Amik Robertson all ahead of him in the rotation and could still add a rookie.
He shouldn't cost the Lions much, which makes him a fine addition as depth at corner and as a special teams contributor.
