Liverpool's upcoming summer transfer window beckons the changing of the guard in more ways than one.

Mohamed Salah has consistently shown why this need not be the case in his own personal regard, now a potential new teammate of his has displayed the damage they could deal together so long as the contract scenario falls the way of the Reds.

The Reds currently run the risk of losing the man that has been their vast contributor in front of goal.

To be exact Salah has 54 goals and assists combined but as of yet the Anfield hierarchy are yet to secure a new contract to keep the 32-year-old at the club.

Not only would his importance go amiss, but also the sense of what could have been after Giorgi Mamardashvili - the goalkeeper Liverpool agreed to sign from Valencia for £30m in advance for this summer - has now proven he is truly of capable of linking up with attackers in a way Salah has thrived.

On international duty this week the 24-year-old is taking part in a two-legged UEFA Nations League relegation play-off for Georgia against Armenia.

His country managed the best start possible with a 3-0 away first-leg victory and it was Mamardashvili's assist for striker Georges Mikautadze that stunned.

A pinpoint pass upfield by the goalkeeper in the 37th minute was latched onto by his teammate, who carried on to slam home from a tight enough angle.

That was Georgia's second of their three goals on the night and importantly from a Liverpool perspective, their new signing's first-ever assist in his seven-year career so far.

Not since Manchester City came to Anfield in October of the 2022/23 campaign has a Reds goalkeeper assisted one of their teammates.

That time it was Alisson kickstarting a clinical counter attack put away by Salah.

The duo had linked up for goals on two previous occasions, making the Brazilian the only Premier League goalkeeper in history to provide for the same teammate that many times.

Granted, the succession plan between goalkeepers remains up for debate and Mamardashvili may find himself forced to break beyond current starter Alisson, but learning under the 32-year-old will only strengthen raw qualities the Georgian possesses.

Salah could once again find himself bearing down on goal in a Liverpool shirt - so long as a new deal is signed - and it could all be because of a inch-perfect pass from his new teammate between the sticks.
