Report: Everton given unexpected opportunity to revive interest in £29m Chelsea star

Everton’s squad will be looking quite different ahead of the 2025/26 season – and it is perhaps not out of the question it could include Carney Chukwuemeka.

Everton have a number of players out of contract in the summer.

The Friedkin Group have a lot of work to do, and whoever replaces Kevin Thelwell as director of football will certainly be a very busy person.

But the hope is that Everton will be productive, and act decisively ahead of the first season to be played at the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

There have already been come transfer links to potential new players.

But there’s been a development with Carney Chukwuemeka – a player Everton looked at in January – which may now place David Moyes on alert.

According to German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund have apparently decided they won’t buy Chukwuemeka permanently from Chelsea for around £29 million this summer.

The reason for this is due to their position in the Bundesliga.

Currently, they are struggling and are languishing down in 11th place.

They are 10 points off the top four and Champions League football for next season.

So far, Chukwuemeka hasn’t seen a huge amount of involvement with the German giants, having made five appearances so far. A couple of injury problems have made playing regularly a bit tricky thus far.

Of course, in January there were several reports towards the end of the window that Everton were interested in signing Chukwuemeka on loan.

But it was only going to be possible if Armando Broja headed back to Chelsea to free up a loan spot, something which didn’t happen in the end.

That was a shame, because Chukwuemeka was apparently open to the move to Everton.

Everton may still have interest in Chukwuemeka

It may well be that Everton officials keep a close eye on Chukwuekmeka’s situation between now and the end of the season.

It sounds as though Dortmund don’t want to buy him permanently, which could open the door for Everton to swoop.

That said, Dortmund would be open to another loan – but it’s unclear if that’s something Chelsea would entertain.

Moyes may well fancy Chukwuemeka, given Abdoulaye Doucoure now looks set to leave Everton in the summer, and that there are doubts over Orel Mangala signing permanently after he sustained a serious knee injury.
