Firefighters tackle blaze during wildfire warning

Firefighters have been tackling a grassfire in West Dunbartonshire after an extreme warning was issued across Scotland.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were called to reports of a wildfire in the West Kilpartick Hills near Bowling at about 14:15.

Four appliances attended the scene but have now left and will return at first light on Friday.

A "very high" risk warning for wildfires is currently in place across central and south-west Scotland.

A spokesperson for SFRS said one appliance was sent, but on arrival called for three additional appliances.

Due to failing light, crews left the scene and will return in the morning.

The spokesperson said: "There is no immediate threat to life or neighbouring property."

On Tuesday, the SFRS warned that low-lying areas across the country were at "very high risk" of wildfires on Thursday.

That warning will be upgraded to "extreme" risk on Friday, as temperatures are expected to reach 18C.
