Liverpool have been handed a potential injury concern after Ibrahima Konate suffered a knock on national team duty.

The Reds have 17 first-team stars with their respective senior national team squad for the March international break. A host of the Reds’ youngsters have also been called out with the junior teams, including Harvey Elliott, who appears to have shaken off an injury scare.

There has already been a fitness concern from the national team camp, with Ryan Gravenberch forced to leave the Dutch national team camp due to an injury he sustained in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The 22-year-old, alongside Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo, was among the Liverpool players called up by Ronald Koeman for the Netherlands’ upcoming Nations League double-header against Spain. He will return to the club to be assessed after leaving camp.

And now Arne Slot has been handed another potential injury worry after Konate picked a knock in the first half of France’s Nations League clash with Croatia on Thursday.

With Croatia leading 2-0, the defender was replaced by Dayot Upamecano after the break due to a knock he suffered in the first half.

Liverpool will be hoping that the defender has not suffered any serious injury. The Reds are already stretched thin in defence, with Trent Alexander Arnold, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez currently sidelined with injuries.

Any extended time on the sideline for Konate will mean that the club will have to make do with just the duo of Virgil van Dijk and Jarlell Quansah for the remaining nine games of the season.

Such a situation will be far from ideal for Slot, who will be desperate to have the Premier League title under wraps in the coming days after the heartbreak of missing out on his first medal as Liverpool boss in the Carabao Cup final loss on Sunday.
