NFL Insider Issues Key Update On Stefon Diggs’ Visit With Patriots

Star wide receiver Stefon Diggs reportedly left One Patriot Place on Thursday without a deal in hand.

Diggs made big news Wednesday night when it was reported he took a free-agent visit to the New England Patriots. Diggs reportedly had dinner with staffers before having meetings and a physical with the team Thursday.

The physical was a key part in Diggs’ trip to New England since the 31-year-old wideout suffered a torn ACL in late October, putting the start of his 2025 campaign in doubt.

But even though the two sides didn’t reach a deal, there’s reason for the Patriots to be optimistic about where they stand with Diggs, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

“Stefon Diggs is on his way home now after a good visit with the Patriots,” Breer wrote. “New England able to gather some info, and Diggs got a chance to take his first visit. They’ll keep talking.”

A deal between the Patriots and Diggs isn’t “imminent,” according to MassLive’s Karen Guregian and Mark Daniels. The Patriots were the first known visit for Diggs this offseason.

The Patriots have a need Diggs can fill as they are in search of a top-flight receiver to help out Drake Maye. New England also struck out on Chris Godwin in free agency along with Cooper Kupp.

Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler with the Buffalo Bills, turned in six consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons and was on track to extend that streak last season with the Houston Texans before his significant injury put an end to it. Diggs caught 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games with Houston.

The Patriots obviously wanted to do their due diligence on Diggs, and will have a decision to make with other veteran receivers, like Amari Cooper and Keenan Allen, still on the open open market.
