Arsenal are preparing for a significant squad overhaul this summer, with key reinforcements expected in both attack and midfield. Injuries derailed the Gunners’ title challenge this season, prompting Mikel Arteta to actively pursue top talents in the transfer market.
Among the names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium are Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, Martin Zubimendi, and Nico Williams. Several of these targets are currently in action for their respective national teams, with Williams delivering a standout performance for Spain in their UEFA Nations League quarter-final clash against the Netherlands.
The 22-year-old Athletic Bilbao winger was the star of the show as Spain battled to a 2-2 draw in Rotterdam on Thursday. Williams made an immediate impact, opening the scoring within nine minutes after a swift attacking move involving Lamine Yamal and Pedri. His last goal for Spain had come in the Euro 2024 final victory over England, and he once again proved his quality on the big stage.

However, despite Spain’s early lead, the Dutch side grew into the game. Justin Kluivert set up Cody Gakpo for a powerful equaliser before half-time, and the Netherlands took the lead just seconds after the restart when Jeremie Frimpong’s cutback found Tijani Reijnders, who produced a stunning finish past Unai Simón.

A late red card for Jorrel Hato shifted momentum back to Spain, and Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino capitalised, tapping in from a rebound after Williams’ shot to secure a crucial draw ahead of Sunday’s second leg in Valencia.

Despite a relatively quiet domestic season with Bilbao, Nico Williams continues to showcase his immense talent on the international stage. His performances have only fuelled speculation about a potential summer move, with Arsenal reportedly ready to trigger his €58 million release clause.
Arteta has held long-running discussions with Williams’ representatives over a structured payment plan, and the Gunners are expected to make a formal move once the current campaign concludes.
