On Thursday evening, NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported that the Chargers are hosting former Vikings and Jets tight end Tyler Conklin. The former fifth-round pick out of Central Michigan has been the starter in New York for the past three seasons, totaling 1,622 receiving yards and seven touchdown since signing with the team in 2022.
The #Chargers are hosting veteran TE Tyler Conklin on a visit, sources say. A bit of a surprise he’s still available, especially since a few teams have shown interest in signing him, including the Jets, with whom he had 170 catches for 1,622 yards and 7 TDs the last three years. pic.twitter.com/7uxiYuPvjU

Originally drafted by the Vikings, Conklin was seldomly-used during his three seasons in Minnesota as he recorded just 43 receptions for 329 yards and a single touchdown. In 2021 — his final year with the Vikings — Conklin broke out with 61 receptions for 593 yards and three touchdowns while starting 15 of 17 games.
This past season while catching passes from Aaron Rodgers, Conklin hauled in a career-high four touchdowns to go with 449 yards on 51 receptions while starting 15 games.
Should the Chargers end up signing Conklin, their tight room would receive a much-needed injection of talent as the room currently holds only 2024 starter Will Dissly with former UDFAs Tucker Fisk and McCallan Castles behind him.
Tyler Conklin's catching has been outstanding. Snatching everything thrown his way.
- Caught 20 of 27 targets (74%)
- 0 drops (4th-most receptions without a drop among TE)
- Caught 4 of 5 contested targets (80%)
- 3rd-most receptions above expectation among TEs (+2.8) pic.twitter.com/ntH3kuHEb5
