Trail Blazers' Robert Williams III likely out for season

Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams III is out for the remainder of the regular season.

The team announced Thursday that Williams underwent an arthroscopic procedure to address inflammation in his left knee and will miss four to six weeks.

The regular season ends on April 13. Williams would only play again this season if the Blazers reach the NBA playoffs.

The Blazers are in contention for a Western Conference play-in berth.

Williams has missed 11 of the team’s last 12 games with left knee soreness. He was available for the Blazers' loss to the New York Knicks on March 12 but did not play.

Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said this week that Williams experienced soreness in his knee following practice last week.

Williams has played in just 20 games this season after missing 76 last season, his first with the Blazers.

He was averaging 5.8 points and 5.9 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game.

Williams has one year remaining on his contract worth $13.3 million.
