Manchester United return to Premier League action when the international break is over
Manchester United are sat in 13th place in the Premier League table after a disappointing season to date. They have nine fixtures left to play before they can look ahead to the next campaign.
The Red Devils won 3-0 away at Leicester City in their last Premier League outing. Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes got their goals against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium as they secured all three points to boost their confidence.
Ruben Amorim’s men are back in action on Tuesday 1st April with a tough trip to the City Ground to play Nottingham Forest. Their upcoming opponents are in the top four and are eyeing a place in Europe.
Liverpool hold talks with Manchester United transfer target
According to Fichajes, Liverpool have ‘already contacted’ representatives of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap amid interest from United and Chelsea. The report suggests he is valued at around the £40million mark ahead of the next transfer window.
Delap, 21, joined Manchester City in 2019 after rising up through Derby County’s academy. He was a regular for City’s youth sides before going on to play six times for their first-team under Pep Guardiola.
The England youth international was loaned out to Stoke City and Preston North End to get some experience but struggled to make an impact with the Championship pair. He then linked up with Hull City last term and was a hit with the Tigers in the second tier under their former manager Liam Rosenior as they narrowly missed out on the play-offs.
Delap scored eight goals for the East Yorkshire club and that earned him a permanent switch to Ipswich last summer after they were promoted from the Football League under ex-United coach Kieran McKenna. He has since become one of the Tractor Boys’ most prized assets and has found the net on 10 occasions.
The East Anglian outfit will face a battle to keep hold of him later this year with Liverpool said to be keen along with United and Chelsea. It remains to be seen at this stage who could win the race for his signature.
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim pleased with recent form
Amorim was pleased with the performance and application from his players against Leicester. The international break has come at an annoying time for United just as they were building momentum.
After beating the Foxes, he said: "I think it was good.I felt a little bit a lack of energy, but they gave everything. Some players were tired and also with the Ayden [Heaven] problem. I think we deserved the win and we controlled the game. We could be better withthe ball but I understand after these two weeks with a lot of games.I think the lads deserved the win. And it was a perfectway to end this week with the win for our away supporters."
United are starting to grind out results now which is positive to see from Amorim. They will hope to find their feet again when they return as they look to end this campaign on a high note.
