**HAMILTON, Canada**
Canada on Thursday announced more than $99 million in funding in a demonstration of its commitment to support the humanitarian response in Gaza and the West Bank as the region grapples with conflict and a worsening humanitarian crisis.
"Today, the Honorable Melanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, announced more than $99 million in funding to support the UN, World Bank, Red Cross and NGO partners in delivering international assistance to Gaza and the West Bank," Global Affairs Canada said in a statement.
The aid package includes $20 million to restore essential services, particularly in the health sector, and to help vulnerable communities.
Another $24.55 million will support life-saving assistance, including food, protection and shelter, while $24.75 million will go toward peace and security efforts, including mine action. Additionally, $30 million is allocated for economic recovery and governance in the occupied West Bank.
"The current humanitarian situation is not sustainable," the statement said, adding that "Canada reiterates its call to allow the free flow of humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians in need."
Ottawa further stressed the need for international humanitarian law to be respected, "including the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers."
"Canada calls for an immediate end to hostilities, for Hamas to release all hostages and lay down its arms, and for Israel and Hamas to negotiate in good faith to reach a sustainable and lasting ceasefire," the statement added.
Canada reiterated its support for a two-state solution, saying it remains committed to efforts where "Israelis and Palestinians can live side-by-side in peace, security, and dignity."
