Manchester United are among the squads around the world most likely to either bring stability in the coming years - or significant transfer fees.
It’s set to be a big few months ahead for United with Ruben Amorim looking to build his own squad in what will be his first summer transfer window with the club. The manager has already confirmed that the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) are likely to mean that sales are needed before any big incomings.

But, according to the latest CIES Football Observatory, United are one of the top teams in the world set up to be able to do so. The latest post looks at the percentage of league minutes played by players under contract with a club for more than 18 months (until beyond 2026).
While Chelsea lead the way with 91.8 percent of minutes, United are the second Premier League club on the list, and are sixth on the overall list looking at clubs from 37 leagues around the world. 86.4 percent of Premier League minutes have been played by United players who are under contract beyond 2026.
It means that with the majority of the squad, their futures are secured and they will bring in money if United decide to sell, instead of losing them on a free transfer. There are four players out of contract at the end of the season in Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton, but none of the four are regular starters.
Defender Harry Maguire and midfielder Casemiro are the two out of contract in 2026, with a decision needed over their futures soon.
However, while contract situations won’t be too much of a worry for United, there are other clubs where that isn't the case. United’s rivals Liverpool have three key players in Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk all out of contract at the end of the current season, and face the real possibility of losing all three for nothing in the summer transfer window.
The fact that it’s a situation that Amorim won’t find himself in will be good news for the United boss. The club will have to keep forward planning to stop it happening to them in the near future.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes as well as Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez are among the players out of contract after the 2026/27 season. However, all three have the option for a further year in their deals.
