Emi Martinez has been told that “pound for pound” he’s a better goalkeeper than Gianluigi Donnarumma ahead of Aston Villa’s Champions League showdown with PSG.

Martinez and Villa head to Paris for the first leg of their quarter-final tie in Europe’s biggest club competition on April 9 and host PSG at Villa Park in the second leg on April 15.

The winner of the last-eight tie will face either Real Madrid or Arsenal in the semi-finals, while Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are on the opposite side of the draw.

World Cup winner Martinez and Donnarumma will have key roles to play when Villa and PSG meet next month - and comparing the two international goalkeepers, former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has made his view clear.

“I think just pound for pound Martinez is a better goalkeeper, certainly his record in penalty shootouts can’t be questioned either,” he said, speaking on ESPN FC.

“And the truth is you are talking about two of certainly the top five goalkeepers in the world.

“Just asking a difference between the two and I lean towards Emi Martinez.”
