Bruno Guimarães called Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool the “best day of my life” after captaining the club to their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
The midfielder played the full match at Wembley as Newcastle secured a 2-1 victory, with goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak sealing the historic win.

“It’s all for these fans,” Guimarães said in the post-match interview. “They deserve everything. When I first came here I said I wanted to put my name in history. We can now say we are the champions again. This is one of the best days of my life.”
The Brazilian, who arrived at Newcastle in 2022, revealed that he had exchanged messages with club legend Alan Shearer before kick-off.
Shearer, who was in the stands for the final, had twice lost FA Cup finals with Newcastle as a player but finally saw his club lift silverware.
“This is my second home. We are making history,” Bruno said. “Some day when I leave this club I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to Shearer. He text me before the game. I’m so emotional today.”
Newcastle’s victory also secured European football for next season, ensuring that the club will compete in the UEFA Conference League.
It was a long-awaited moment for both the club and its supporters, and Bruno made it clear just how much it meant to the squad.
