WHAT’S black and white and red all over?

The Islington Tribune, and some rather excited Newcastle United fans – who turned King’s Cross into a football carnival over the weekend.

Is it all over? Pub cat Savy takes a peep

Trains from the North-East were packed as supporters arrived for the Carabao Cup final, whether they had a ticket for the match at Wembley or not.

The good natured fun even saw The Dolphin pub get temporarily renamed ‘The Mad Dog & Mags’ – a tribute to Jason Tindall, the team’s glowing assistant manager who has cult status among the Newcastle fans for his touchline energy.

The London Mags supporters club for fans living in the capital has a long relationship with the classic pub in Tonbridge Street.

2-1!

Across King’s Cross, pubs like the Northumberland Arms and the Water Rats were decked with black and white flags and were literally drunk dry by the fans – not a drop was left to sell by the end of Sunday.

Full time

Newcastle had raced into a two-goal lead against Liverpool, but the fans’ nerves were shredded in the final moments when their opponents pulled one back.

The final whistle was met with roars that might have been heard on the moon, as well as a slight spillage of some pints.

On Monday morning, fans – some wearing shades and feeling a little worse for wear – could be seen in King’s Cross station working out the train timetable.

Photographer Simon Lamrock captured the thrills and spills throughout the weekend with the images on this page.
