Shedeur Sanders Predicted To Replace Future Hall of Fame QB

There doesn't seem to be a clear consensus on where University of Colorado Boulder quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be taken in next month's NFL draft.

Some have him going within the first three to five picks, but a few predict he could fall further than that, perhaps a lot further. There is even a feeling that he's overrated and mostly hype, due at least partly to the fact that he's the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.

A new CBS mock draft has the younger Sanders slipping, but not too far, to the No. 7 pick. There, according to Chris Trapasso, the 23-year-old will be taken by the New York Jets, a franchise that has just moved on from future Hall of Fame signal-caller Aaron Rodgers.

"The Jets plan for the future at the quarterback spot and prepare for a Sanders/Justin Fields quarterback battle that'll surely grab headlines in August," Trapasso wrote.

The fact that Sanders, if he's selected by the Jets, would possibly have to beat out Fields for the QB1 spot would certainly be interesting, especially since it would take place in the nation's biggest media market.

New York signed Fields, who spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, perhaps in the hopes that it could transform him into a legitimate starter. In four NFL seasons, he's never had as many as 2,600 passing yards or 18 passing touchdowns in a single season.

With the Buffaloes, the younger Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2024. While he's a very accurate passer (he completed 70.1 percent of his pass attempts in four college seasons), he lacks top-level arm strength and seems to struggle against defensive pressure.

There seems to be a wide variance of outcomes as far as his pro career will play out, not to mention which team will call his name during the draft.
