Newcastle United and England legend Alan Shearer believes Marcus Rashford "has got a spring in his step" and is ready to make an impact on the England side.

Once a major part of the England set-up, the 27-year-old struggled to impress former boss Gareth Southgate enough for a call-up during his dip in form at Manchester United.

But since making the move to Aston Villa the forward has been quick to impress new boss Thomas Tuchel, deciding to bring him back to the squad after seeing the "huge impact" he has had at Villa Park.

The winger has been selected in Tuchel’s first England squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers as a result, returning to the Three Lions set-up for the first time in a year, something Alan Shearer believes was the right move.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer revealed: "Marcus Rashford has been back to what we expect to see from him in recent matches. He seems to have got a spring in his step and his love back for the game.

"He has to continue that [the form at Aston Villa]. We all knew the ability was there, it was just whether he wanted to bring it out again, or whether someone could get it out of him, and Unai Emery is doing that."

The forward has already racked up nine games since joining in January, creating four goals all for Marco Asensio after striking up a quick partnership.

Shearer believes that being back in the squad could give him a boost when he arrives back at Villa Park, adding: "It's a big call from Thomas Tuchel because there are other players in Rashford's position but there's no doubt that he deserves the call-up.

"He was given another opportunity by Villa and it was up to him - and up to now, he's taken it.
