Manchester United are set to see eight big-name players depart in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are set to transform their squad this season as Ruben Amorim looks to build a side capable of challenging for a Premier League title.

They have a lot of concerns regarding Profit and Sustainability Rules as the club has spent over £560 million in the past five years, something that hasn’t warranted major success for the Red Devils. They have won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in that time, however.

With that in mind, there are four United players that the club could look to sell this summer, alongside four names who are set to depart as their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Man United star could be sold in squad ‘exodus’

According to a new report, eight United players have been named as potential departures this summer as Amorim plans to revamp his squad before next season. They are plotting a clear-out of unwanted players in order to produce some funds for Amorim to go out and buy the players that he wants to succeed in his 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.

According to the Standard, star midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is amongst a list of four United players who are set to be sold in the summer to help raise some funds. The 19-year-old has been somewhat of a bright spark for United, but due to his high market value, it seems the club are prepared to sell him. He has reportedly asked for £180-per-week in a new contract.

The report says that United can generate around £70 million for Mainoo, all of which would be considered ‘pure profit’ due to him being an academy product. He was previously linked to Chelsea in the January transfer window.

Furthermore, his midfield partner Casemiro is also a name that they are looking to sell. The Brazilian will have one year left on his contract at the club in the summer. His deal includes a wage of £350,000 per week, so selling him could free up some much-needed wage budget.

The other two names in terms of sales are Marcus Rashford and Antony, who are both on loan at Aston Villa and Real Betis and returning to Old Trafford in the summer.

Both have seen improvements in form since leaving United, with Rashford’s improvements getting him back in the England squad after a year of absence from the national team.

Antony has also shone at Real Betis, he’s made seven La Liga appearances, scoring two goals and two assists for the Spanish side.

Which players will leave for free?

The reports also includes that United aren’t preparing to extend the contracts of four players who are set to become free agents in the summer.

Firstly, defender Victor Lindelof’s deal at the club is due to expire after a spell of eight years at Old Trafford. The Sweden international has made just eight Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season, as he’s fallen out of favour.

Christian Eriksen is also due to leave, and hinted recently that he is “prepared to find something new” as his contract expires in the summer. Jonny Evans is also set to leave the club with his contract expiring, and backup goalkeeper Tom Heaton will also leave.
