Tottenham send player to get surgery from same doctors as Rodri and Dani Carvajal

A report has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were insistent on surgery after Bryan Gil picked up a knee injury on loan at Girona. It also revealed what the winger’s injury will mean for a potential permanent switch to Girona in the summer.

Bryan Gil’s season appears to be over after he picked up a knee injury, which will come as a major blow to the winger, who had been in fine form for Girona this season.

After years of seeing his career stall at Tottenham Hotspur, the 24-year-old had finally managed to get it back on track and even forced himself into the Spain squad.

However, he now faces the prospect of spending several months on the sidelines, and a report has now shed light on what Spurs did when they heard about the injury.

Tottenham intervened to put Bryan Gil under the knife

A report in Marca confirms that Gil has now successfully undergone surgery on the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee and is expected to be out for four to five months recovering.

The decision to operate on the Spain international was ‘led by Tottenham’, who ‘intervened’ and decided to put their man under the knife.

It is explained that the former Sevilla man had a sprained knee that affected the lateral collateral ligament and meniscus, and Spurs decided that opting for the surgery route would be the best course of action.

Meanwhile, journalist Nil Sola, has reported that Gil was operated by Manuel Leyes, one of the top surgeons in the world and the man who operated on Manchester City’s Rodri and Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal this season.

What this means for Gil’s chances of joining Girona permanently

The update from Marca goes on to suggest that the injury is expected to have an impact on Gil’s chances of making his loan switch to Girona permanent in the summer.

It is pointed out that the La Liga club have the option to sign the Tottenham man for €15m (£12.5m) in the summer, but it is revealed that they already consider that figure to be ‘too high’.

Now that Gil is not expected to be fit until the middle of Girona’s pre-season schedule, all indications are that they are now likely to look at other alternatives.
