After 12 years out of management, Sir Alex Ferguson is set to be returning to the dugout this weekend for a very special occasion.

The Scot hung up his managerial tie in 2013 after an impressive 27 years at Old Trafford, managing the club to 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League titles, two UEFA Supercups as well as ten English Super Cups and nine domestic trophies.

Since his retirement, Sir Alex Ferguson took on the role of the club’s Global Ambassador, however, this role has now been axed by INEOS in a bid to save the club money.

Now though, the 83-year-old will be taking on management once more, travelling to Florence, Italy, for Giusepe Rossi’s farewell match.

The former United manager has been invited to lead one of the side’s in the match as Rossi’s first coach when he joined United at 17 years old in 2004.

Rossi made only 14 appearances under Ferguson, with four goals and an assist, ultimately leaving the club to join Villarreal in 2007.

Speaking about his former coach managing in the game, Rossi commented: “I only did three years with him and played little, but he immediately said yes and this shows what kind of person he is. I did little at United but he treats me like Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 1000 goals.”

Rossi officially hung up his boots back in 2023, however some true icons like Luca Toni, Antonio Cassano and Gabriel Omar Batistuta are coming back for one final match for the 38-year-old.
