Caoimhin Kelleher Liverpool latest as Brazil doctor gives Alisson injury update

Caoimhin Kelleher could make a return to the Liverpool starting-11 after clubmate Alisson suffered a suspected concussion while on international duty with Brazil on Thursday night.

Alisson was forced off during the game against Colombia with a nasty head injury.

He was involved in a clash of heads with former Tottenham defender Davison Sanchez - an incident that saw both players replaced.

Brazil’s team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar provided an update on Alisson’s condition after the game.

“Alisson suffered a head injury and was replaced due to a suspected concussion,” he said.

“We will now follow the CBF protocol, and he will undergo the recommended imaging tests, a CT scan and then a diffusion MRI.

“If all the tests are normal, we will proceed and perform a cognitive test. Then we will evaluate the player.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot will eagerly await the results of the tests. The Reds return to Premier League action on April 2 in a big Merseyside derby against Everton.

“If everything is normal,” Lasmar continued, “we will continue to monitor the situation over the next few days.

“Today, we will do the tests and all the necessary assessments.

“Alisson is normal, without any complaints. He did not report any fainting or memory loss. He thought he was a little slower.

“With this complaint, the recommendation is to replace the player.”

Brazil’s next game is away to world champions Argentina - and Alisson is expected to sit that one out.

Kelleher, meanwhile, had an uneventful night in goal for Ireland as they won their Nations League promotion/relegation play-off first-leg against Bulgaria.

The Boys in Green will defend their 2-1 lead on Sunday when they play the same opponents at the Aviva Stadium.
