Rasmus Hojlund reflects on his ‘best’ performance yet for Denmark, 21 minute cameo shows Man Utd how to get the best…

Rasmus Hojlund is hitting the headlines for the right rights after overcoming a 21-match goal drought for Manchester United.

It has been a challenging season for Manchester United and it would be unfair to point the blame at a specific player.

United’s first-team has been guilty of underperforming for the past decade and Ineos are trying to shift the mentality at the club. It’s an attempt to ensure United get back to the top by competing in the biggest competitions.

Ruben Amorim’s side are currently sitting 13th in the Premier League and there are only nine games left before the domestic season ends. The only chance United have of qualifying for the Champions League is by going all the way in the Europa League after reaching the quarter-finals.

A large section of the United squad are away on international break, giving other members of the team a chance to recharge their batteries for the season run in.

Rasmus Hojlund’s best performance for Denmark

Denmark hosted Portugal in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final and several United players were in action.

Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were both named in Roberto Martinez’s starting line-up, with Christian Eriksen started for the Danes.

Denmark boss Brian Riemer switched things around in the second half by bringing on Rasmus Hojlund – as well as Patrick Dorgu, albeit at a stage stage of the game.

Hojlund made the most of his 21-minute cameo by scoring the winner against Portugal before mimicking Ronaldo’s iconic celebration.

Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Hojlund revealed he felt it was his performance yet for his country.

“Across the whole pitch it was the best game I’ve played with the national team, and we can afford to be greedy and say we should have scored one more.

“But it’s also about creating chances, and we’re really good at that today.”

A lot has been written about Hojlund and his struggles in front of goal for United this season, although with three goal contributions in his last three games for club and country, there are signs that things are starting to click for the young striker.

The 22-year-old also highlighted how the Danish side were able to help him after coming on as a substitute. He suggested that Denmark were efficient in attack by creating chances for him to score.

Amorim, who needs to get the best of his centre-forward, has previously stated that United need to do more to help Hojlund score goals.

Hojlund stats vs Portugal

Denmark boast a one-goal advantage over Portugal going into next week’s UEFA Nations League quarter-final second leg.

Hojlund will be hoping to return to Denmark’s starting line-up for the reverse fixture and his performance on Thursday night will give Riemer plenty to think about.
