Fans are expected at Newcastle Central Station on March 29
Newcastle United's plans to celebrate their Carabao Cup success are starting to take shape, with an event planned for the Town Moor on Saturday, March 29.
Fans are now encouraged to register their interest in the event, with access only via tickets sold on the club's website. Many supporters had hoped for an open-top bus style parade through the city centre, as was seen when Kevin Keegan's side celebrated their promotion to the Premier League in 1993.
Hundreds of thousands of fans lined the streets 32 years ago to cheers their heroes, but while no atttendance figure has been revealed, it seems likely that there will be a limit set on the number of fans who can attend the Town Moor event.
Talks have been ongoing between the club, Northumbria Police and Newcastle City Council since Sunday's win over Liverpool at Wembley, with understandable safety and logistical concerns high on the agenda.
However, one factor which may have played a part in the planning is the fact that Sunderland host Millwall at the Stadium of Light, also on March 29. The Championship clash gets under way at 3pm, which means a large number of Millwall fans heading to the North East.
Those travelling by train will likely arrive at Newcastle Central Station from London on the Saturday morning, before catching the Metro or local train routes to Wearside. This necessitates police presence around the station and which would have inevitably been a factor when examining the viability of a street parade.
Millwall fans have an historically fearsome reputation, although the club only featured in ninth place in the league table of football-related arrests in the 2023-24 season.
