Paraguayan media issue brutal reaction to Nottingham Forest star Roman Sosa's display against…

Ramon Sosa’s Nottingham Forest career has been stagnant as of late, with the international break seen as a chance for him to get back on the pitch with Paraguay.

Sosa suggested Paraguay was his only focus in a somewhat bizarre social media post ahead of the international break, but his frustration may be understandable given his recent absence from the Forest squad.

Upon joining the Reds, Sosa revealed playing in the Premier League was his dream so a chance under Nuno Espirito Santo would’ve come with the understanding that patience would be required as he adapted to English football, but this patience may be running thin.

Sosa was excellent against Luton Town but has only started once since, also in the FA Cup, often not even in the matchday squad for Premier League fixtures. This meant that a return to Paraguay for international action should’ve been a welcome break, but his display against Chile didn’t impress some.

Ramon Sosa criticised for his display for Paraguay against Chile

The Paraguayan media weren’t impressed by Sosa against Ecuador in October and it seems that the very same opinion is held about his performance against Chile on Thursday.

ABC rated him a steady 6.9 in their player ratings, but their report on the match itself indicated a slightly different take.

Amongst the criticisms, the ABC report said that “Sosa lacked composure in front of goal,” as a result of his poor shooting efforts in the first half when Paraguay were struggling to convert their dominance into an opening goal.

Eventually, Omar Alderete opened the scoring for the hosts via an assist from Antonio Sanabria, enough to secure the win for Paraguay as they strengthened their chances of qualifying for the World Cup in 2026.

Sosa failed to make the desired impact on proceedings, though, with his stats from the Chile encounter suggesting that the 24-year-old’s lack of minutes at the City Ground has impacted his confidence.

Ramon Sosa’s ineffectual Paraguay display in numbers

Despite an approach from an unnamed European side, Sosa made the decision to stay at Forest in January and fight to earn back the trust of the Forest manager. Unfortunately, though, his display against Chile will have done little to convince Espirito Santo.

Ramon Sosa’s Chile performance in numbers

Something that keeps Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the starting XI is their reliability in possession, so Sosa only completing 70% of his passes and losing the ball 15 times against Chile won’t have convinced the Forest coaching staff that he can replicate this assurance.

Missing a presentable chance can happen in any game to any player, but Sosa’s unreliability in other aspects of his game makes it hard to see a place for him in the Premier League squad.

Next up for Sosa and Paraguay is a trip to face Colombia, a game that is not just important for the country, but for the winger personally as a strong performance is required to force his way back into Espirito Santo’s plans.
