Nottingham Forest have marked what would have been legendary manager Brian Clough's 90th birthday today (Friday).
In a post on social media, the Reds said: "Never forgotten. Today we remember Brian Clough on what would have been his 90th birthday."
Clough's achievements with the Reds remain unrivalled, and his European Cup success has come to mind more so this season as Nuno Espirito Santo's side chase Champions League qualification. But Forest's greatest ever manager's one-liners have passed into legend, too.
There is absolutely no doubt the great man had a way with words. His quips have stood the test of time, having the ability to spark a grin today as much as they ever did.
Match days at the City Ground are not complete without the goosebump-inducing video ahead of kick-off which showcases Clough in all his brilliance. It ends on the perfect note, with his legendary line, “I hope anybody’s not stupid enough to write us off”, complete with knowing look straight into the camera.
Quick-witted and sharp of mind, he was a one-off. Few have come close to matching Clough in his prime for having the gift of the gab.
