Marcus Rashford reportedly has a £40 million option to buy in his loan deal at Villa Park.

Manchester United will be looking ahead to the summer as they decide which players should stay at Old Trafford and which will be on their way out. They are set to make several sales in order to fund their own transfer business and comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

One player that looks set to leave permanently is Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa after leaving Old Trafford in January. However, it is not yet clear what will happen to the attacker when his loan deal ends in June.

£40m Rashford claim made amid Villa loan spell

Rashford left on loan for Villa after falling out of favour with United manager Ruben Amorim in the Autumn. His struggles at United left Rashford out of the England squad for the Euros last summer, however, his recent resurgence at Villa has handed the attacker a call-up for Thomas Tuchel’s first Three Lions squad.

Rashford has made nine appearances since joining Villa in January, despite not scoring yet, his creative play has improved, and he’s provided four assists for the Midlands-based side.

According to a new report by TeamTalk, United have already agreed a £40 million buy option in Rashford’s loan deal at Villa. It was not something either club publicised when Rashford made the move to Birmingham.

The report says that it is not yet clear whether Villa will pay the fee and sign him permanently, however, the £40m fee has ‘set a precedent’ with interested parties, meaning that they won’t be able to get more than £40m for Rashford even if his form dramatically improves.

It does say that if the 27-year-old gets back to his very best, then United could drive his price up assuming Villa don’t buy him at the end of the season.

Barcelona were previously said to be keen on Rashford alongside Serie A side AC Milan and West Ham United, who all were linked with signing the attacker during the January transfer window when he eventually joined Villa.

Manchester United identify £59m Rashford replacement

Assuming that the Red Devils do sell Rashford in the summer transfer window, Amorim will be keen to bring in a replacement who can play in one of the two positions next to the striker.

This week, reports emerged that United are interested in former Leeds United attacker Raphinha, who has been at Barcelona for the last three years.

United are reportedly willing to offer £59 million for the attacker, who has made 42 appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring 27 goals and 20 assists in what has been one of the Brazilian’s best years.

He previously has experience in the Premier League during his time at Leeds United between 2020 and 2022. He made 65 appearances for the club in the top flight, scoring 17 goals and providing 12 assists.

In other news, Liverpool have reportedly began talks with a £40m striker who’s been linked to Man United.
