West Ham have been linked to Yuri Alberto since 2023 with a deal yet to go through with Corinthians.

The Brazilian was of great interest to the Hammers in the most recent summer transfer window under Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui.

Instead, other forward options like Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme came in but have both failed to impress in the Premier League.

Looking ahead to the upcoming transfer window, there is every chance that the Irons could make another swoop to sign the 24-year-old under Graham Potter.

Alberto was another name who was constantly linked to East London with a £20m fee being mooted at different times throughout the window and in January.

Although a deal is still yet to go through, it is clear that the interest coming from E20 is real and could be physicalised in the near future.

The striker’s agent, Andre Cury has now spoken to Globo (19 March) about the Hammers’ interest and has revealed why a bid has already been rejected by Corinthians.

He said: “Yuri Alberto came to play for Corinthians for free, Corinthians spent zero reais. I already brought an offer of 30 million euros, with that offer alone he would have paid me and still made money.

“He really likes the club, we’ve obviously had several offers to return to Europe, which is also a case of his. He’s in his third season here, he’s six goals away from becoming Corinthians’ top scorer of the century, he’s 23 years old, he’s the top under-23 scorer in the world in all leagues and obviously, he always has offers.

“Our job is to take the offer to the club. We’ve had offers from Wolverhampton, West Ham, Betis, Spain, and we’ve had offers from Italy but it never happened. But the player is young, every player who’s in South America thinks about playing in Europe and it’s no different with Yuri.”

Alberto could transform West Ham

Even with Evan Ferguson coming in from Brighton in January, the Irons have struggled for a regular goal-scoring striker this season.

Jarrod Bowen has once again been the Hammers’ star man but Potter and Co. can’t continue to rely on him, on his own moving into next season.

This could allow Alberto to come in and share some of the burden with the England international in an attacking boost at the London Stadium.

The 24-year-old has netted 64 goals for Corinthians since signing from Zenit, including a 31-goal campaign in 2024.

2022 28 11 2

If this could be translated into the Premier League moving into next season, there would be every reason for excitement in East London.

Given the level of interest in his signature, it is unclear if the Irons could tempt him to move to the capital but if they could, there is every chance he could transform the side.
